Join the Ambler Arboretum on Saturday, October 5, for Ambler in Bloom, which supports the Arboretum’s essential mission to serve as a living laboratory promoting love and knowledge of horticulture, understanding the relationship between people and the environment, and awareness of the need to achieve greater environmental responsibility.
This year Ambler in Bloom will honor our dedicated Arboretum volunteers. Our gardens would not be what they are without the tireless hands that have helped them thrive!
In this spirit, we are inviting our guests to get hands-on in the gardens, exploring unique experiences through taste, smell and touch and learning new ways to immerse themselves in the natural world. Learn about our many adventurous activities below!
A guided Arboretum Director’s Walk will lead guests to dinner, followed by the very popular annual live auction.

Music brought to you by Najwa Parkins, a 2010 Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance alumna and an adjunct instructor in Voice, Jazz Studies. Parkins believes in connecting with audiences through storytelling in music. Her vocal stylings, spanning jazz, blues, R&B, pop and folk, are often described as smooth, smoky and soulful, with a profound emotional range. Her performances have graced prestigious venues and festivals across the U.S. and Europe, earning praise from renowned musicians for her lyrically and musically engaging compositions. Parkins' background as a dancer, competitive gymnast and occasional aerialist adds a distinctive flair to her performances, making each appearance uniquely captivating.
Philadelphia Distilling, the first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since Prohibition, was founded in 2005. Known for creating premium spirits with big, bold flavors, they utilize hand-hammered copper pot stills and wooden fermentation vessels to ensure high-quality products. Ambler in Bloom will feature several botanical-forward signature cocktails crafted from their unique spirits.
Dive into a singularly unique culinary experience with a professional oyster shucker from Red Oyster - Oystertainment, who will dress to impress in a crisp white leather uniform and steel mesh glove. Watch as they roam the garden and expertly open oysters to order, combining strength with artistry to reveal the fresh, briny delights within. They will not only serve up delicious oysters but also share their passion and wealth of knowledge about the shucking process, the nuances between different oyster species and the reasons behind our preference for oysters from select U.S. waters.
Prepare to be awestruck as Raptor Jawns brings the majestic world of birds of prey to life! Master Falconer Courtney Douds will introduce you to two remarkable feathered guests: Medea, the Red-Tailed Hawk, and Hecate, the Eastern Screech Owl. With over twenty years of experience, Douds shares her deep knowledge and passion for these incredible creatures. Observe these powerful birds up close and learn about their roles in the ecosystem, their hunting techniques, and their unique behaviors. As Medea and Hecate perch gracefully, you might even spot some of the red-tailed hawks that frequently soar over the Arboretum, drawn by the presence of these special guests. This enchanting encounter offers a rare glimpse into the lives of these fascinating raptors and their integral place in nature.
Indulge in a hyper-local honey tasting experience from 4 Brothers Honey and uniquely skilled husband and wife apiologists Justin and Sarah Humes. You’ll savor the diverse tastes of raw honey from hives in Doylestown, Ambler, Horsham, North Wales, Jamison and Pottstown and note the differences in each unique flavor. Explore the fascinating world of beekeeping as you view (weather permitting) their glass educational hive and hear about the unique art of honeybee cutouts, the safe re-homing of colonies and the plethora of honeybee byproducts that can be created from hives they manage.

Immerse yourself in a tea tasting and educational experience with John Smagula, Assistant Dean of the Temple University Beasley School of Law, who is also a certified tea specialist in the United States and China. Smagula will feature a variety of teas and provide insights into their production and brewing methods. He will also showcase the Ambler Arboretum's Camellia sinensis plant, offering a real farm-to-table experience.
Explore the enchanting world of biophilic design with Kate Shooltz, a renowned moss artist. Shooltz’s creations are crafted from preserved natural mosses and plants, bringing the serenity and tranquility of nature indoors. Her art invites you to experience the intricate textures and beauty of nature in a unique form. Discover how Kate’s work fosters a deeper connection with the natural world through the innovative concept of biophilic design, which enhances well-being and creativity by fostering a deeper connection with the natural world and integrating nature into our everyday lives.
Watch the meticulous artistry of bonsai with Michael Persiano, a master in the art of bonsai tree design and cultivation. Michael will style a 30-year old Japanese Black Pine that he has trained from a seedling, demonstrating the patience, skill, and dedication required to nurture such a living masterpiece. His expertise in crafting miniature trees that mirror their full-sized counterparts provides a unique window into the world of bonsai, where nature and art converge. Michael's work not only highlights the intricate beauty of these small-scale trees but also underscores the profound connection between humans and nature, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship and the harmony that can be achieved through careful cultivation and respect for the natural world.
