Sites and Facilities

Natural Environments

The Temple Ambler Field Station overlays the 75.6 hectares Ambler Arboretum and Ambler Campus, with ecosystems ranging from older growth forest to wetlands and streams. 

  • Forest: 30.6 ha, including secondary forest and older growth dominated by American beech and black oak. 
  • Designed Gardens: 2 ha, including 12 cultivated gardens.
  • Aquatic and Wetland Environments:
    • Two ephemeral streams
    • Wetlands: 0.9 ha
    • Floodplain: 8.2 ha
  • Meadows:  2.5 ha
  • Turf: 14 ha
  • Impervious Surface: 2 ha

The natural environments support a diverse assemblage of species, including over 1,000 unique taxa identified to date.  Information on current temperature and soil conditions is also available.

Facilities 

Research

Facilities include equipped research laboratories, greenhouse, research garden, outdoor research array, office and meeting space for visiting scholars.  A trail system helps researchers, students, and visitors access our forest ecosystems. 

Instructional and Conference Spaces

A suite of smart classrooms and conference spaces and a 300-seat auditorium are available for instruction and collaboration. 

Equipment

The Ambler Field Station is outfitted to support field research and courses, offering a variety of field and laboratory equipment for shared usage.

Information Commons - Library and Information Technology Services

Temple Ambler Information Commons

The Information Commons is home to the Ambler Library and Information Technology Services at Temple University Ambler. Located on the first floor of the Ambler Learning Center in Learning Center Room 106, the Information Commons includes new compact/moveable library shelves, new furniture and new layout for the collaborative space and the return of a significant portion of the Ambler Campus book collection from the Charles Library where they were housed, and remained available for use, after the 2021 tornado. The Information Commons provides a dynamic space on campus for learning, study and collaboration.

The Information Commons and the ITS Help Desk are open from Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Ambler Library has librarians on staff from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

Food Service

During the academic year, food may be purchased from the Aramark P.O.D. Market in the Learning Center Lobby

Recreation

Recreational facilities are available for use, including, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, gym, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, weight room, and playing fields for baseball, softball and soccer.
